Psychotherapy for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Concerns

Despite living in the most LGBTQ-friendly era in American history, living authentically as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or trans can still be a highly stressful experience.  People who identify as LGBTQIA, and from religious/conservative communities are many times faced with the possibility of losing everything. Individuals who come out later in life struggle through a complete identity and community change.  It is hard work to make these types of life changing transitions.  Anxiety and depression can become problems, and unhealthy behaviors and thinking can emerge based on your pain level.  Healthy transitions are possible and give you solid ground to stand on, despite what the world may throw at you.

You might be a parent who is struggling because your son says that he is actually female, and all you want is your old life and your son back.  Or your daughter may have come out as lesbian, and although you want to be supportive, you are dealing with disappointment and confusion about what feels like a monumental change.  These type of changes can create crises and alienation within family relationships, but it doesn't have to stay that way. If you are a parent who needs additional support, education, and understanding due to changes in your child's orientation or gender, please feel free to contact me to set up an appointment.  My office is a judgement-free zone.

Whether you need counseling specific to issues related to being LGBT, or just feel more comfortable knowing your counselor is a part of the community, I'd be happy to meet with you to discuss your therapy needs.  If I'm not the right fit for you, I can help by providing referrals to other professionals that may suit your needs better.
